Hello Reader!

My name is Ella Mac, I’m the founder of A Woman Determined. I’m the key writer of content on this site, subject to the proof-reading and sense-checking by my nearest and dearest.

I’m a young professional working in the City of London (UK).  I’ve been in work since I graduated in 2013 and I have been completely astounded by the clear gender inequality which is still prevalent in the City.  I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve taken a client to lunch and been the only woman in the room.  I’ve lost count of the number of times I haven’t been invited on corporate days to the rugby/cricket/tennis because people assume I don’t want to go.  I’ve lost count of the number of times that I get a look of disbelief from new introductions; a woman, a girly girl in heels and a pink dress, surely she can’t be competent in finance?!  Actually, I am.  I am a woman and I am capable.

For over three years, I have read more and more about the gender issue.  I have simmered and stewed about it; I’ve felt frustrated and challenged my friends, my family and my colleagues over the issue.  The principle of feminism and of gender equality is something which I am truly passionate about.  I decided to channel my passion, my frustration and my emotion into something constructive; A Woman Determined was born.

The objective of this site is to bring together information regarding gender equality, providing a platform from which we can all draw information. After all, knowledge is power. My aim is to consolidate news articles, industry developments, inspirational speeches, powerful case studies and more into a single site.  Whenever I find interesting information, I will link it here.  The objective of A Woman Determined is to provide a one-stop-shop for those who want to know more.

Importantly, this is a site for both men and women.  Gender equality cannot be achieved if only women want it, if only women promote it and if non-feminists continue to think that we all just burn our bras and hate men.  I want to help create a society in which my daughters will have equal opportunities to my sons.  In my opinion, knowledge, information and understanding are the best ways of achieving that goal.

This site is a work in progress.  I hope that you enjoy the content and I welcome all constructive feedback.  Please use our Contact Us page to tell us what we’re doing right or what we can improve on.

Look forward to hearing from you, happy reading!
